Round Three

Round Three (June 25 - July 1)

-You MUST timestamp your entry photo. This is a hard rule beginning with this week. No timestamp, no vote. You only have to timestamp your completed dish photo, not multiple photos if you’re posting a set.
-The more photos you post, the better! We want to see your cooking. Detailing the cooking process/posting a recipe is encouraged (but not mandatory).
-Please use a tripname or some other way to distinguish you from the other contestants. Use the same name/signifier throughout the remainder of the competition.
-Just because you missed the first two rounds doesn’t mean you shouldn’t submit an entry! Eliminations begin after Round Five, and as long as your average score is high, you may move on to become one of the final fifteen.

Voting will be carried out in this thread. Please read the voting guidelines below.

VOTING GUIDELINES

Voting follows an 'Iron Chef' scoring system. This means you, the people of /ck/, will judge each entry individually instead of deciding on what you feel is the "best" dish.

Dishes are scored out of a total 20 points, based on 4 categories (worth a maximum of 5 points each); Presentation, Originality, Appeal and Challenge Goals. You may award 0's if you feel the contestant did not meet any expectations for a category.

-Presentation: The appearance of items on the plate; plating skills
-Originality: Creativity in composing the dish
-Appeal: How appetizing the food looks/whether or not the dish appeals to your personal taste as a voter
-Challenge Goals: How closely the entry followed the challenge goal(s)

The Round Three Challenge is:

Soup! Show us your best soup, using any ingredients you like. Word to the wise, use a shallower bowl for serving, so it's easier for people to see your soup. Round Three goes from June 24th to July 1st. Let's have a good challenge and don't forget your timestamps!

***While submissions for Round 2 are now now longer being accepted, we'll leave the thread (http://boards.4chan.org/ck/res/3681266) up for another 24 hours, in case you haven't had a chance to vote for some of the later entries. When you vote, please sage your post, so we don't have more than one Challenge thread on the front page. We're trying out this new extended voting style for the first time so we'll see how it goes. Thanks everyone!

Round Two Entries will be posted shortly.  Sorry for the delay on the blog post!

The distinction between Presentation and Appeal: If someone submits an artfully arranged but burnt steak as an entry, it may score high in Presentation but low in Appeal.

VOTING GUIDELINES

***NEWS! Instead of allowing people to cast single votes, voting has been changed to loosely follow an 'Iron Chef' scoring system. This means you, the people of /ck/, will judge each entry individually instead of deciding on what you feel is the "best" dish.

Gameplay Overview & Rules

GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW

Once a week at midnight EST, a new challenge will be posted on /ck/ and this blog. The challenges will be (for the most part!) simple, and broad enough to allow plenty of creativity (example challenge: apples--cook a delicious dish that feature apples as the star). Once the week's challenge is posted, you have one week to complete and post your dish, unless otherwise notified of an extension.

To submit your dish, simply post a timestamped entry photo in the designated Challenge thread on /ck/. While a simple single-photo entry will suffice, we encourage all contestants to post verticals/additional photos of the cooking process. Not only do we think it's more fun, but in the case of ties, the judges (heartsonfire and ZB) will decide which contestant moves on... and we like to see cooking photos!

To vote, simply comment and rate each individual dish using the following scoring format in each Challenge thread:

Presentation: /5
Originality: /5
Appeal: /5
Challenge Goals: /5

You get to decide how successful an entry is in fulfilling those four categories, out of a possible total score of 20 points (5 points per category). The highest rated contestants will be the ones to move onto subsequent rounds.

That's it! Comment and tell us what you think of the entries. Entry submission and scoring will be kept in the same thread. This means we will only have ONE official /ck/ Challenge thread at a time.

Remember, the winner gets $50 in cash, a /ck/ coffee mug and apron, and the highly coveted /ck/ Challenge trophy... as well as a mystery prize! The total value of the prize package is over $120!

If you don't wish to submit your mailing address/P.O. box, you will instead receive a $50 digital gift card to Amazon. We already ordered the mug, apron and trophy, so, y'know. :P

**
The /ck/ Challenge will consist of 10 weekly challenges in total.

The first three rounds of competition are open to anyone and everyone to enter.

For rounds 1-3, contestants will not be eliminated or given penalties for failing to submit a successful dish. However, cumulative points will determine which players move on to Round 4. This means that while you can skip a week's challenge for the first three rounds, it is highly recommended that you submit an entry every week so your total score will not be affected.

The maximum number of contestants that move on to Round 4 will be capped at 15, so make sure to submit something delicious every week. :)

For rounds 4-10, contestants will be eliminated based on their scores per challenge. That means if you do poorly in Round 4, you may be eliminated even if you were a total ro/ck/star during Rounds 1-5! With Round 4, penalties and rewards will be introduced to gameplay. Even if you are not eliminated, if you are in the bottom for a round, you may be given a penalty that applies to the next challenge (such as not being able to use x ingredient to prepare your dish). Alternatively, if you received the highest number of votes, you may be given an advantage over the other contestants...or even immunity into the next round.

RULES

-For the sake of simplifying the voting process, we require that you adopt a 'signature'. Use a Challenge-specific tripname* or some other sort of method to distinguish yourself, such as a jar of milk or guns in your entry photos.

*We understand that you may be opposed to using a tripcode, however that is the easiest way to distinguish who is who, and will keep voting from turning into a small nightmare. If you already use a tripcode on 4chan, we strongly recommend you use a a different name as your board reputation may skew votes against your favor.

-You must timestamp all of your entries.
-Please don't rate your own entry multiple times. Blatant samefagging will result in a warning/disqualification.
-If you received a penalty, you must follow it in creating your dish or your entry for that week will be disqualified (and you may be booted from the game!).

Welcome to the /ck/ Challenge blog, anon!

The /ck/ Top Master Iron Chef Ultimate Nightmare Kitchen Survivor Challenge is an annual competition to determine who has the greatest culinary skills, creative mind and tenacity on the torrid battleground known as "/ck/ - Food & Cooking".

Over the course of ten weeks, we will be presenting a series of challenges where anyone can battle for blood, glory, the title of Supreme Champion as well as a fabulous prize package* of:

-$50 cash prize

ANYONE can compete for the first three rounds of competition, after which we will begin eliminating contestants until only one remains standing in kitchen stadium. Eliminations will mainly be based on voter participation, so bookmark this blog and keep an eye out in /ck/ for vote threads!

If you are an established tripfag, we strongly advise that you compete under an alias so that voting isn't negatively affected.
