Round 1 (March 9 - March 15

Welcome to the 5th Annual /ck/ Top Master Iron Chef Ultimate Nightmare Kitchen Survivor Challenge!

If you're interested in competing, there are a few simple guidelines we ask you to follow. Your entry will be disqualified otherwise.

-Please timestamp your submission! Detailing the cooking process/posting a vertical is encouraged but not required. If posting multiple photos, you don't need to timestamp each one, as long as the final submission photo is timestamped.
-You MUST use a unique identifier; if you don't want to use a tripcode, you must have some other way to distinguish yourself from the other contestants, such as a cute bird or scary statue in your timestamped entry, as long as it's clearly visible and you use it consistently.

Voting will be carried out in this thread. Please read the voting guidelines below.

VOTING GUIDELINES

Voting follows an 'Iron Chef' style scoring system. This means you, the people of /ck/, will judge each entry individually instead of deciding on what you feel is the "best" dish.

Dishes are scored out of a total 20 points, based on 4 categories (worth a maximum of 5 points each); Presentation, Originality, Appeal and Challenge Goals. You may award 0's if you feel the contestant did not meet your expectations for a category.

-Presentation: The appearance of items on the plate; plating skills
-Originality: Creativity in composing the dish
-Appeal: How appetizing the food looks/whether or not the dish appeals to your personal taste as a voter
-Challenge Goals: How closely the entry followed the challenge goal(s)

The distinction between Presentation and Appeal: If someone submits an artfully arranged but burnt steak as an entry, it may score high in Presentation but low in Appeal.

For additional info and to see submissions from Previous years, check out the Challenge blog. (http://ckchallenge.blogspot.ca/)

The theme of Round One is...

Appetizer!

Create a small dish to open the appetite, or to share with friends over a drink. There are no restrictions or requirements, as long as it seems like a pleasant thing. While you're perfectly welcome to make a large spread of food, please make sure there is clearly a "main dish" because that is what people will be voting on.

This is an open round, meaning that anyone can enter. Elimination don't begin until after Round Three.

GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW - 2016 challenge version

GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW - 2016 challenge version

Once a week on Wednesday evenings (EST), a new challenge will be posted on /ck/ and this blog. The challenges will be (for the most part!) simple, and broad enough to allow plenty of creativity (example challenge: apples--cook a delicious dish that feature apples as the star). Once the week's challenge is posted, you have one week to complete and post your dish, unless otherwise notified of an extension.

To submit your dish, simply post a timestamped entry photo in the designated Challenge thread on /ck/. While a simple single-photo entry will suffice, we encourage all contestants to post verticals/additional photos of the cooking process. Not only do we think it's more fun, but in the case of ties, the judges will decide which contestant moves on... and we like to see cooking photos!

To vote, simply comment and rate each individual dish using the following scoring format in each Challenge thread:

Presentation: /5
Originality: /5
Appeal: /5
Challenge Goals: /5

You get to decide how successful an entry is in fulfilling those four categories, out of a possible total score of 20 points (5 points per category). The highest rated contestants will be the ones to move onto subsequent rounds.

That's it! Comment and tell us what you think of the entries. Entry submission and scoring will be kept in the same thread. This means we will only have ONE official /ck/ Challenge thread at a time.

***
The /ck/ Challenge will consist of 10 weekly challenges in total.

The first three rounds of competition are open to anyone and everyone to enter.

For rounds 1-3, contestants will not be eliminated or given penalties for failing to submit a successful dish. However, cumulative points will determine which players move on to Round 4. This means that while you can skip a week's challenge for the first three rounds, it is highly recommended that you submit an entry every week so your total score will not be affected.

The maximum number of contestants that move on to Round 4 will be capped at 15, so make sure to submit something delicious every week. :)

For rounds 4-10, contestants will be eliminated based on their scores per challenge. That means if you do poorly in Round 4, you may be eliminated even if you were a total ro/ck/star during Rounds 1-3! If you received the highest number of votes there might be prizes!

RULES

-For the sake of simplifying the voting process, we require that you adopt a 'signature'. Use a Challenge-specific name  and/or some other sort of method to distinguish yourself, such as a cute bird or creepy statue in your entry photos.

*We understand that you may be opposed to using a tripcode, however that is the easiest way to distinguish who is who, and will keep voting from turning into a small nightmare. If you already use a tripcode on 4chan, we strongly recommend you use a a different name as your board reputation may skew votes against your favor.

-You must timestamp all of your entries.
-Please don't rate your own entry multiple times. Blatant samefagging will result in a warning/disqualification.

The theme of the final round is...
"Signature"
make us your one signature dish, the one dish to blow all of your competitors out of the water.

While you're perfectly welcome to make a large spread of food, please make sure there is clearly a "main dish" because that is what people will be voting on.

Only one will prevail! I will need a show of hands to know if this will be a cummulative score victory or a sudden death round.
